Description
Mission
Teen Challenge exists to provide youth, adults and families with an effective and comprehensive Christian faith-based solution to life-controlling drug and alcohol problems in order to become productive members of society. Teen Challenge endeavors to help people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive.
Teen Challenge was founded by Rev. David Wilkerson in 1958 and gained international recognition through his first book The Cross and the Switchblade. Since this time, Teen Challenge has become Adult & Teen Challenge and has grown substantially with 200 centers throughout the United States, as well as 1000 centers in 80 other countries. In 1997 Teen Challenge was launched in Kentucky. For the first several years we focused on reaching out to men, women and youth in jails and detention centers, and facilitating Living Free Seminars to teach churches and community groups how to combat the drug epidemic in their neighborhoods.
In July 2003, the ministry of Adult & Teen Challenge of Kentucky was expanded with the opening of Priscilla’s Place, a 12-month residential recovery center for adult women in Louisville. In 2008 Chad's Hope Adult & Teen Challenge, a men's recovery center, was opened in Manchester, KY.
