Description
The Louisville Leopard Percussionists are an ensemble of 60+ student musicians ages 7-15 from the Louisville Metro area. The LLP performs a broad repertoire of classical, ragtime, jazz, Latin, and pop tunes while the students learn to improvise, compose, and arrange music. As performers, the students rotate among the instruments and become proficient on several. Students also have the opportunity to study percussion techniques and perform with professional artists.
The Leopards have performed throughout the Kentuckiana area as well as Tampa, Chicago, Columbus, New York City, Atlanta, New Orleans, Dayton, Orlando and Washington, DC. The Leopards have performed with numerous professional musicians including Dave Samuels, Victor Mendoza, Joe Morello, Louie Bellson, Emil Richards, Ruben Alvarez, Jerry Steinhotlz, Ndugu Chancler, Zoro the Drummer, Brad Dutz, jazz vocalist Carmen Bradford, as well as the Louisville Bach Society and the Louisville Orchestra. The Leopards have performed for such celebrities as Coretta Scott King, Yolanda King, Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Evelyn Glennie, Nnenna Freelon, and The US Women’s Soccer Team.
The LLP have been featured in an HBO special called “The Leopards Take Manhattan: The Little Band That Roared” that airs periodically on HBO.
