Shelbyville Kentucky was founded in 1792 and is one of our nations oldest cities. It has a population of around 10,000 people and has a lot to offer any visitor. One of the most popular things to do in Shelbyville is visit some of the horse farms. Since Shelbyville is known as Saddle bred Capital of the World, you can find some of the top trained horses in the city. You can also take tours to see some of these great horse training and breeding sites. The Talon Winery is another popular tourist site, along with the Buffalo Trace Distillery. But, you can't miss out on the Bourbon Heritage Center where you can enjoy Bourbon tasting, tours, and films. If you are in the mood for a little fun, check out the Great Escape 8 or Red Orchard Park where you can do some horseback riding, and picnicking. You can enjoy a little golfing on one of the city's courses, or even go fishing at Lake Shelby 20 Acre Fishing Lake. If you are into the arts, you might try to catch a showing at the Shelby County Community Theatre. When it's time to dine, one of the local favorites is the infamous Claudia Sanders Dinner House. Claudia, wife of Colonel Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, owned and operated this restaurant, which can seat up to 700 people. When you are in Kentucky, you must try a Hot Brown, which is served at most restaurants in the State. Shelbyville is a small city, but rich in flavor and culture.
