There are so many things to do in Louisville, it's hard to imagine ever being bored!
Downtown Louisville is a hub of nightlife, restaurants, events and the arts. The Fourth Street Live area offers nightlife and restaurants all within about three blocks, so you don't have to worry about parking or getting lost! For those who travel to Derby City, downtown Louisville is a great place to stay because it is central to so many recreational commodities.
But if you venture outside of downtown Louisville, you'll also be delightfully surprised at what you find. The Highlands neighborhood also has wonderful restaurants, along with some of the finest shopping in town. If you are a fan of boutiques and off-the-beaten-path shops, travel along the Bardstown Road corridor and enjoy some of the most interesting shopping the town has to offer.
The city also has a number of historic properties that are just waiting to be explored. Places like Locust Grove, Farmington and the Farnsley-Moormen Landing are steeped in history and tradition. These sites have historic buildings, but also recreation space for picnics and even weddings as well.
You might be surprised to learn that another one of the more popular things to do in Louisville is to get out of Louisville! Just across the Ohio River, there are a number of wonderful towns in southern Indiana. There are many riverfront restaurants and shops, and all of them have a better view of the Downtown Louisville skyline than you can find in Louisville.
If you're intent on shopping in Louisville, there are a few other options for quality shopping. Some central locations for chain stores include the Mall St. Matthews and Oxmoor Center, as well as The Summit in the far eastern part of the city. A number of unique boutiques have also sprung up in St. Matthews, in an area known as The Vogue. If was formerly a theater, but has recently been converted into cute little shops and markets.
